Husband, Wife Charged In Murder Of Baby Step-Daughter

It’s been almost two years since DeDreuna Smith found her baby girl deceased in the crib at her father’s house, now he and his wife are charged with her murder according to WLBT news.

The Mississippi residing couple immediately denied any wrongdoing in the death of Jurayah, suggesting she may have died from asphyxiation in her crib. But official autopsy results show 14-month-old Jurayah Smith was killed from multiple blunt force trauma to the head.

Jarayah’s mother said she knew something was weird when she first walked in to pick her baby up from their home.

She’s since been pushing for the couple to be arrested and charged in Jurayah’s death for the last 18 months.

“He walked me all through the house. I asked ‘where’s Jurayah?’ and that’s when we got into the room and there she was in the crib,” said Smith. “And she was on her back and her eyes were closed and her mouth was closed. Her lips were kinda like a greenish color. You could tell she had been dead for a long time and she was cold.”

Pictures below are Jurayah’s accused stepparents, their older daughter and their child born earlier this year.

Morris Bevily IV, 28, and T’Kia Bevily, 26, who just welcomed their own newborn in February, are going to are being charged with capital murder in the death of Jurayah Smith. The Claiborne County sheriff’s department arrested the couple Monday morning.

Jarayah’s mother posted up a facebook video to express her gratitude for eveyone supporting her through the investigation.

So sad!

Just days before they turned themselves in for murder, T’kia created a GoFundMe in an effort to raise bail for herself in her husband. In the text, she maintains they are innocent in Jurayah’s death. The page has since been deleted, but here is a screenshot.

According to the Sheriff, preliminary hearings have not yet been scheduled for the married accused killers.
