Kaliegh Garris Is Crowned Miss Teen USA 2019

Peak melanin greatness occurred at the Miss Teen USA 2019 pageant in Reno, Nevada when 18-year-old Kaliegh Garris took home the crown.

According to the New Haven Register, the Milford, Connecticut teen defeated 51 other contestants to place first in the competition, becoming the second person from CT to win the title after Logan West.

Garris is a competitive dancer enrolled at Joseph A. Foran High School and ACES Education Center for the Arts. At ACES, she studies theater and she founded an organization called We Are People 1st, which assists people with disabilities. Her older sister, who has disabilities, inspires much of her work.

Garris is trained in jazz, contemporary, pointe, tap dance and hip hop. All the while, she’s also been a hiking tour guide in the New Haven Parks and Recreation Department’s Eco Camps, according to a release.

“During the contest you know you have self-doubt because there are so many great people,” Garris acknowledged in the release. “I am just happy, proud, and grateful for the support system I have.”

After high school graduation, Garris plans to attend Southern Connecticut State University’s nursing program to eventually work as a trauma nurse. As of now, she volunteers at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Congrats Kaliegh! Take all your crowns.
