Former NBA Star In Hot Water Over Back Taxes Following 2016 Mental Health Crisis
Former pro baller Delonte West is once again back in the news – and it’s not for his on the court successes.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers player – who was once rumored to have had a relationship with LeBron James’ mom – has been accused of owing nearly $100,000 to the state of Maryland, BOSSIP has learned.
The state comptroller slapped West and his wife, Caressa with a lien totaling $96,041 for income he made in 2013 when he was playing for the NBA D-League, according to court papers obtained by BOSSIP. The amount in question includes not only the tax debt but penalties and interest as well.
The Wests had not responded to the lien as of April 30th, court records show.
This new tax lien is the latest in a litany of money woes for the troubled West. Last year, we exclusively revealed that he sold his $1 million family mansion at a massive loss after the home went into foreclosure. It was the second time in as many years that the former pro ball player had lost a home through foreclosure in Maryland, according to public records.
Both West and his wife have largely withdrawn from public life.
Fans have heard little from the former Boston Celtics player since 2016 when photos emerged of a disheveled looking West wandering outside a Texas fast food restaurant. He was wearing a hospital gown over his shirt and reportedly didn’t have on any shoes.
When a fan asked if he was Delonte West, he reportedly answered, “I used to be, but I’m not about that life anymore.”
