80s Rapper Says Onetime Business Partner Fleeced Him Out Of Namesake Eatery

Flavor Flav’s former business partner is accused of cutting him and his wife out of a restaurant business that was named after the one time “Public Enemy” rapper.

Flav, whose real name is William Drayton, sued James Hawkins in March after he said the man shut him and wife Elizabeth Trujillo out of the business that they started as partners, according to the lawsuit, which was obtained by BOSSIP.

“They opened a restaurant together, and Mr. Hawkins unilaterally breached their agreement,” Flav’s lawyer Marcus Risman told us. “It caused damages to Mr. Drayton because he had fans show up there.”

Risman said the “911 Is A Joke” rapper and his wife Trujillo put “blood, sweat and tears” into getting the restaurant off the ground, even handing out hundreds of copies of Flav’s memoir to drum up business.

The restaurant concept was a fast-casual spot in the Water Street district of Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas, where Flav now lives. “Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Vinny’s Pizza” featured a cartoon character like image of the rapper as part of its signage as well as the menu.

Flav’s lawyer said after Hawkins got rid of his client, he changed the restaurant’s name. Flav wants his day in court as well as money damages for the profits he said he and his wife are entitled to under their agreement with Hawkins. Hawkins had not responded to the case as of May 2nd and Flav has asked a judge to find him guilty by default.
