DJ Official Is Shot & Killed Outside His Home
Tragedy hit the music world on Friday when Grammy award-winning producer DJ Official (birth name André Wakefield Jr.) was killed in Los Angeles.
According to People, the producer died from multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting outside his home, according to the L.A. coroner’s office. He was only 26 years old.
Officials say two men were sitting in a car when another vehicle pulled up next to them. Several shots were fired, causing both men to be hit. One victim was pronounced dead, while the other is in stable condition.
“All he did was go to work and come home,” DJ Official’s grandfather told NBC Los Angeles. “He didn’t belong to [a] gang or nothing like that.” Official’s grandfather was outside mowing the lawn when he witnessed his grandson’s death.
DJ Official has worked with artists like Tyga, Chris Brown and Cardi B.
Some big music names paid tribute to the producer on social media.
“How the fu** they gon’ take @prodbyofficial?” singer Ty Dolla $ign wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with DJ Official. “Who the fu** was mad at my bro? A father, a successful producer, a solid homie who meant a lot to all of us… We had so much fun on this tour and every time I ran into u it was love and good vibes. LONG LIVE OFFICIAL.”
