Man Finally Freed From Prison After 35 Years for a Crime He Didn’t Commit

- By Bossip Staff

Damn, what would we do without technology and evolution:

James Bain used a cell phone for the first time Thursday, calling his elderly mother to tell her he had been freed after 35 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit. Mobile devices didn’t exist in 1974, the year he was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping a 9-year-old boy and raping him in a nearby field. Neither did the sophisticated DNA testing that officials more recently used to determine he could not have been the rapist.

As Bain walked out of the Polk County courthouse Thursday, wearing a black T-shirt that said “not guilty,” he spoke of his deep faith and said he does not harbor any anger. “No, I’m not angry,” he said. “Because I’ve got God.” The 54-year-old said he looks forward to eating fried turkey and drinking Dr Pepper. He said he also hopes to go back to school. Friends and family surrounded him as he left the courthouse after Judge James Yancey ordered him freed. His 77-year-old mother, who is in poor health, preferred to wait for him at home. With a broad smile, he said he looks forward to spending time with her and the rest of his family.

“That’s the most important thing in my life right now, besides God,” he said. Earlier, the courtroom erupted in applause after Yancey ruled.

“Mr. Bain, I’m now signing the order,” Yancey said. “You’re a free man. Congratulations.”

Wow, ain’t that some ish. Can you even IMAGINE what it would be like to be in this man’s shoes??? Bain is looking forward to Fried Turkey, Dr. Pepper, Family and Education…we can’t even be mad at him.

I lot of us LOVE our brothers. Don’t drink the Kool Aid. Some of us STAY down for the Black man. For every stupid self hating sister there is a self defeating brother. We are in this struggle together. Please don’t lump all Black women in together. we get that crap enough from the pink people without believing the hype ourselves.

  • Dirty Diana...Let Me Be ♪

35 years of his life gone just like that for nothing!!!!!!!!!!
how is he going to be compensated?

  • Lets Be For Real

Thats a damn shame… I heard he’s gettin paid 1.7 Million dollars… But that aint ish compared to losing 35 years of ya life… The government really needs to do better…

  • Tuesday's Child

Apparently FL has a law now that if you’re exonerated for a crime you didn’t commit you’re compensated $50k for every year. IF that’s the case…this man stands to get 1.75 mill. That’s not a bad payday. But think about it folks, think about how much he’s missed in 35 yrs. Technology has grown by leaps and bounds. The Internet, DVRs, satellite and cable in just about every home, smart phones, GPS systems..the list goes on. Homie has A LOT of catching up to do.

  • BapBarbie

I’m upset about the fact that he was convicted in the first place. They can’t give him back the 35 years that they took from him.

Dude tellin the media that he doesn’t want the money… Its not about sticking it to “the man.” He has to live and I doubt he’s going to find employment with his record and level of education…
