Honoree: Shannon Thornton

The Grind: Actor

Find Her: @shannonthornt_n

Shannon Thornton’s beauty may have first won you over on Power, or maybe it was seeing her as a hair model in your favorite hair magazine. Wherever it was, it only intensified after seeing her as the Pole Princess of The Pynk, Keyshawn in P-Valley. Shannon plays a character much unlike herself, and that’s why she wanted to play her. A southern beauty, insecure about her complexion, in an abusive relationship, devoid of familial love the Connecticut native is almost her antithesis.

Shannon told HelloBeautiful, “The fact that there are girls who feel this way…is what drew me to her and was a big part of why I felt it was so important to be part of this project, because we do tackle colorism on the show”.

Like many creatives, Shannon has more than one talent. An artist, she paints bold watercolor pieces when she gets some down time. From portraits to more abstract pieces, her work feels joyful and unencumbered. She’s also vocal about social issues, encouraging people to get involved with their government and speaking out against police brutality. Still can’t get enough of Shannon? Don’t worry, she’s coming back for season two of P-Valley.
