    I workout 5-6 days a week.

    Interval strength training 3 times a week with 20 cardio (cardio after). Each month I change my workout. Most times I work two body parts at once, for example military press with squats, etc. Strength training is very important and can reshape your whole body. Also, as you get older your metabolism slows down, strength training will speed it back up.

    Interval cardio the other 2 days with yoga (flexability training is very important and also great for your core because most of yoga is about core stability)

    If you work out, you have to eat! Fruits, Veggies, Grains, Protein.

    Eat a complex carb (ie fruit) prior to any workout to give you energy and eat some protein (ie shake) within 15 minutes after your work (especially weights) for optimal results (repair, etc).

    For a killer a*s, squats, lunges, dead lift, donkey kick and bridges. For squats, keep the focus on the heels of your feet. After you finish I set, do a hold set (where you hold it down), then do a pulse set. Every time you do lunges, keep the focus on the front leg and push your butt back…you will end up putting more focus on the glutes.

    Regarding point 3, it should read muscle hypertrophy NOT atrophy because hypertrophy means growth of the muscle as it responds to overtraining but atrophy means decrease in size and tone which is not what happens to muscle with strength training, but one would see that if you were in a cast for extended periods of time and not using the muscle.

    How bout stop eating so much junk food!!! Even if you work out but your diet stinks you won’t see any changes. It’s a combo of both!

  • Ride a bicycle, you will be surprised

    For anyone that wants to shape up without the gym hop on a bicycle. Find a local cycling club in your area, you will see the results in a few weeks. I have found that most Black women don’t like to exercise because of the sweat v/s hair issue.

    @Chief Hater

    Good point. Eating is 85% of it. All the excerice will be worth nothing if you don’t fuel your body right.

    I suggest trying to eat clean. Educate yourself when it comes to foods…each food ie Kale vs spinach provides different things to your body. I’m a vegetarian, so it’s essential that I’m mindful when I eat.

    The best advice would be 5-6 meals. Breakfast (7-8am) snack, lunch, snack, dinner, and snack (optional). You main meals should be between 300 to 400 calories (depending on your BMI and how active you are)..each snack about 100 calories.

    Buy a scale, weigh your food because portion size is normally what do people in.

    @soul touch

    That was great advice.

    I work out three times a week for about an hour because my time is limited. I used to spend two hours in the gym, five times a week.

    How do I maximize my time or what exercises should I be doing to get comparable results?

  • Soul Touch

    Thanks all, glad I could be of some help. I’m certainly no guru lol, but living healthy is important to me, especially after I lost my father.

    Nothing wrong with that.

    two hours 5 times a week is a lot. wow, suprised you didn’t wear yourself out, sis. Long workouts are normally not encouraged because after all while your body will start using muscle to burn for energy, especially if you didn’t prepare by fueling your body first.

    What are your goals? Weight loss? Weight gain? Getting fit and toned?

    Try weight training (full body) those three days and adding cardio after. Even better, if you can wake up an extra 20 min in the morning, do your cardio at that time then you don’t worry about fitting it in after your full body work out.

    Another idea, instead of doing your cardio after…fit it in every 5 minutes. Meaning…do some lifting, then quick 2 min of cardio (ie jump rope).

    The good thing about your three day workout is that you give you body ample resting time (rest time is actually when your muscles develop).
