7-Year-Old Samba Queen Breaks Down Under Pressure, Was She Too Young For Her Role?

- By Bossip Staff

7-year-old Julia Lira sparked controversy in Brazil after being elected Queen of the Drums for her Samba school because role is traditionally reserved for adult women, largely due to the provocative costume and dancing involved . Child welfare advocates fought to have Julia removed, but a judge allowed her to participate in the Carnival parade today. Unfortunately Julia did get a little overwhelmed by the events. Pop the hood to watch a video and see more from Carnival:

It’s normal for a child to get overwhelmed by papparazzi — we think Julia held her own pretty well. She’s the youngest samba queen in recent memory and if you check out the gallery that includes some of the other queens, it shouldn’t be hard to see why the child welfare advocate groups were beefing.

So very sad…child welfare should have locked the parents up for even thinking about this baby participating in such hedine-like activity…SMDH

She needs braces. My parents put braces on me when I was 6…as soon as those crooked adult teeth came in. That’s what she needs. Until then she had no business being Samba Queen! SMH.

WHY DO YOU HAVE KIDS IN THERE I WILL NEVER KNOW, THAT PLACE IS FULL OF CARELESS SEX??

  • http://bossip Keep it Real

Not for a child. The other Queens. This is why brothers love Brazilian women. They got the exoctic/white girl face and hair and from the stomach and waist down they got a sisters body. Unbelievable

People need to stop trying to making their children grow up so quickly. What ever happened to playing with dolls, skating, riding your bike, playing hopscotch and all the other childhood things we used to do? It’s the parent’s egos that thrust their children into stuff like this.

At the end of the day, she is A CHILD. Let her act like one.

I see nothing wrong with her in taking part in the carnival. it’s normal for every and anyone to take part in the parade where i come from. the thing i don’t understand is why they chose her to be the queen. Maybe they if they should have a kiddies carnial section if they don’t already have one and let the kiddies be prince and princess of the that section.

little kids dont sexualize stuff like that. if there was any age she should be able to dance her heart away, its this age. she was overwhelmed by the creepy photogs. i think it’s beautiful and a celebration of woman and sexuality, and she just choked as a 7-yr-old should.

my caribbean bf and i were wondering when black americans were going to start having celebrations of sexuality like this, and I don’t mean luda’s how low contest. I mean something that doesn’t have that tinge of filth a.s.s.ociated with it. can you imagine? All we have is Queen of Gettin Low. Those Twerk Team buttaheads would be our parade leaders…ewww

Oh my…why is this necessary? What’s next? A toddler shaking her bejeweled diaper and pacifier in front of thousands next year? What parent offers up their daughter for this crap anyway?

2sweet, you must wait until all the adult teeth are in f braces..around 13 for most kids. Even then, the wisdom teeth can mess up the fixed teeth.

Yep, the just reported on the controversial one (who wasn’t allowed to wear a miniskirt to school) and how she spent nuff $$$ on FOUR SURGERIES in preparation of carnival! It’s a big deal for them, even more so than the Caribbean!
It’s supposed to be a celebration of ‘freedom/emancipation’ but it’s now about ‘sexuality/plastic perfection’!
DEFINITELY, not a place for a child…that’s why they have KIDDIE CARNIVAL!
