Antonia “Toya” Carter Speaks On Lil Wayne’s Jail Sentence: “It Is What It Is… We Just Gotta Make The Best Of It”

- By Bossip Staff

Antonia Carter recently did an interview with VIBE magazine speaking on how their daughter, Reginae Carter, was really having a difficult time with all the date changes and the day that Lil Wayne was finally sentenced.

“It was up and down, you know. One minute we thought he was going and she’d be sad and then he don’t go. The last day he finally went in, we didn’t go, so my daughter was like, ‘I wish I would’ve went.’ It was just too much.”

Toya says Lil Wayne encouraged her to be strong while he was locked up, adding that he wanted Reginae’s cell phone to remain turned on so she can answer whenever he calls. Reginae will get to visit Wayne in jail, noting, quote, “at this point it is what it is, and we just gotta make the best of it.”

All of Lil Wayne’s other children will be to young to remember any of this, so Reginae this has to be really hard. Do you think it’s a good idea for Reginae to visit her father in jail???

On a side note, Toya is still going strong in her new relationship with Memphitz.

It is age-appropriate, it also depends on her maturity level at her age. As for her dad it may strike him emotionally where he may need to wakeup!!!

“Do you think it’s a good idea for Reginae visit her father in jail”?

Ahh… Yeah! Why wouldn’t it? The girl is what? 12, 13 years old? So why wouldn’t it be a good idea?

It’s not like father is about get killed or something, and has to see him dead. You have to let your kids grow up. Stop babying them, people!

She knows he’s in jail so its not like you are trying to hide it. Seeing that he’s okay, will make it easier for her

I think its just fine for her to go see her father while he’s locked up. As his daughter, I’m sure she is not blind to his activities. Even if they tried to hide it from her, the media makes sure the world knows, so she has sources to find out. Taking her to see him will maintain their relationship. especially since he’s an entertainer. he may not be at home as much as normal fathers, so YES! Toya and her daughter have to make the best of the situation. if that means taking her daughter for a supervised visit to her father in lock up so be it. she is already a product of a broken home. lets not make her lose a year due to lock up. yes wayne is responsible for his actions, but nonetheless he deserves to see his child. She is old enough to have a maturity level to understand the situation and learn from it. If anything, its even better that she sees him locked up, so she learns that just because you are wealthy or an entertainer doesn’t mean you can escape the law. sometimes candycoating things for children does more harm than good. kids need to learn life is not always peachy.

I just love how the modern day sista has turned the whole “STAND BY YOUR THUG” steeze into a true ART FORM. Talk about lowerin’ the bar of expectations? The sad part about their rationale, is their cavalier attitude, all the while exposin’ the children to their own nihilistic wretchedness! This is just another in a long line of reasons why most sistas’ should not be allowed to breed.

It’s RIKERS ISLAND people! It’s not like he’s at some club Med prision for white collar criminals. Why would any mother in her right mind take her child to that place? She can get phone calls from him and they can write letters. It’s selfish to expose her to that kind of environment.

    @ Sanjor
She’s the one that has to deal with Reginae’s feelings. It is clear that this little girl adores her father. So yes, she and Reginae will have to make the best of it – that’s the “we” Toya’s talking about not her and Wayne.

Its Rikers Island though…Its not the Martha Stewart type of jail so I would say no.

While reading the quote from Toya, I became annoyed. Why is it so hard for people to say a grammatically correct sentence? You know…a sentence with correct verb tenses. Boggles my mind.

I am not understanding as to why any father would want their child to visit them in jail. It’s not as though he is serving a 20 year sentence.

  • irrelevant

Reginae knows her father messed up, but I don’t think she should be punished by visiting him in the worst place imaginable. That would do more damage than he’s already done… (simultaneously impregnate famous jumpoffs west of the Mississippi all while pouring his drank, gettin blowed, and writing two more tracks) SMH

its NEVER good a idea to take a young girl that age to visit her father in prison. I went thru that for 3 years and now when I look back on it its depressing. No one should have that memory of their father being imprisoned and not being aable tos ee them when they want to.
KEEP HER AWAY and let her write and call

  • Y'all Play Too Much

H#ll no she shouldn’t take her to visit him in jail, that’s of a typical, short-sighted, stupid, hood mentality. HE made the choices that led to his incarceration, not his children. Why would you even want to introduce your child to something like that? Taking her to a prison, Rikers of all places, like it’s a normal situation and acceptable part of life. She also doesn’t need her phone on so she can answer whenever he calls. How about just calling to speak to your child at decent d@mn hours? How’s that for an idea? What is wrong with people? You make these stupid, selfish decisions and then your children suffer as a result. She’s not 18, she’s still a child. Was he thinking about her or any of his other countless kids when he was out here wildin’ out, doing the stupid sh*t that led to him being locked up? Prison is no place for children and it’s selfish and stupid to introduce your child to that type of environment, let alone even want your child to see you in one.

These immature azz wipes make me sick. Do they even consider how their actions affect their children. fu-k a thug…

I don’t think it’s nothing wrong with taking her to visit her father…that’s her dad come on now it’s not like he’s not in her life she loves her father so I would take her to visit him if that was my child..she’s old enough to know what’s going on

Toya is a ghetto chick, she don’t know any better..She would not even be relevant if it was’nt for B E T

    @Y’all Play Too Much
    Cosign 100%.

She’s a child. She has no place in a prison. I wouldn’t take my child into a prison for any reason. Especially just because her father is a damned fool who didn’t care too much about all his kids before he got locked up, or he wouldn’t be sitting in there now. Damn that. I know she knows what’s going on, and it would be painful to miss her father, but he’s only going to be gone for a year. Kids her age all across the country have parents fighting in Iraq, whom they may never see again, and the other parent can’t just take their children into a war zone to see them. Why the hell would you take your children to see their father in a caged war zone just because you can? My son wants to do a lot of things that would make him happy, but just aren’t good for him. He’s a child and sometimes doesn’t understand why I won’t let him do these things that could be harmful for him. He will someday. I’m his MOTHER and my job is to protect him. Not to subject him to nonsense like some of these feeble minded ghetto chicks do their children. Hell, when I was little, if you were a child in my family, you had to damned near be the one dead to even get to go to the wake of a funeral. Take my children into a damned prison because I didn’t have better sense than to lay up with some criminal? Oh, hell no. Hate me now, and if he’s still in there when you’re 18, feel free to go see him. Smh.

I swear some of u are stupid. of course its appropiate for this young lady to see her father in jail. wayne may b many things but he has always bn a gr8 father to his daughter. every experience is a learning experience so why can’t they deal w this like a family. many of yall come from dysfunctional a$$ homes & without fathers so living w/o one is common place 4 u…for this lil girl its not.
