What Was Diddy Doing In This Photo??? RESPECT Magazine Answers That Question And More

- By Bossip Staff

RESPECT Magazine, a quarterly photojournal featuring some of urban culture’s most stunning visuals, recently released their second issue and we decided to share a few shots with you. Pop the hood to feast your eyes… and find out what Diddy was doing in that photo!

Toronto-born photog Chris Buck says of the Diddy photo, shot in 1997:

“He has a house on the bay side of the Hamptons — that’s where he always throws his White Parties. The tide comes and goes, and I saw that there were some rocks just below the surface, and I thought it would be cool to shoot him there. He said, ‘No, I don’t think we should do that.’ But I sent my assistant out there and made them stand on the rock, and I took a Polaroid of him. Then I brought it back to Puffy and showed him and said, ‘Look how cool this looks.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, that’s cool. You’re right, we should do it.’ The way I got this particular shot is there was this girl he was dating or something, and she walked out there just to say hello, and I said, ‘Hey, put your arm on her shoulder.'”

Kim Porter, is that you???

(Oh the irony of Diddy landing on page 66!)

The second issue of RESPECT features iconic images shot by Jerome Albertini, Marc Baptiste, Estevan Oriol (who shot the cover photo of 50 Cent), Janette Beckman, Chris Buck, Kenneth Cappello and Mike Schreiber.

You can pick up the magazine at your local bookstore or newsstand or visit their website HERE.

I agree with TheOriginalBlkBarbie. Question for you… why do women insist on calling themselves a Barbie? Does anyone realize that Barbie has no brain?

I also agree with TOBB, but I don’t understand the “Barbie” thing either. Are you saying you’re fake, plastic, superficial or what? You can’t possibly being saying you’re intelligent so how is being a “Barbie” a good thing? Not trying to “go in” lol, just confused. Please explain.

  • MsAnoymonous(THE WISE ONE)

SMDH…LOOK AT THIS BLASPHEMOUS IDIOT….diddy is truly a pompous clown.

anyways to those goin hard on chicks callin themselves BARBIE>> i honestly dont believe it has anything to do with them wanting to be plastic, fake or brainless…I think the admiration falls in from BARBIE bein agelessly beautiful, rich and fabulous…BARBIE IS THE ULTIMATE FASHIONISTA AS WELL…and alot of women like BARBIE represents fashion beauty and the fabulous life thats why alot of women and girls compare themselves to BARBIE mainly because of those facts alone and THEEEEN you have many that are livin and wanting to look like BARBIE “literally”…..those are the ones I like to refer to as the “superficial broads.”

  • girly.

Can’t be much clearer that I’m not trying to “go in” but whatever. I guess I’m just the type of person who wouldn’t call themselves after anything or anyone, so I’m already at a loss. (If I’m trying so hard to be like someone else, who is going to be like me?) But if I did, they would have to represent the complete package and not just the superficial aspect of being “fabulous”. Besides, there is no way a lifeless doll could represent any of the things you mentioned. Ageless Beauty – uh. she’s a doll so….? Fashionista – again, a doll. It’s not like she’s picking out the clothes lol. Rich? Maybe in Monopoly money. So bottom line for me is: She. Is. Not. Real. The fact that we’re even talking about her like she’s a real person should be alarming.(And please don’t go there about Barbie being named after the creator’s daughter because we all know that is not who these “chicks” are calling themselves after). Thanks for your time and your attempt at making this clearer for me.

Terrible image. He’s not Christ. He’s not her savior. He’s not going to bless or baptize her. And hopefully, she’s not going to unzip his pants, either.

P DIZZY YOU ARE NOT JESSUS CHRIST MORE LIKE LUCIFER.

@ T.O.B.B., thank you for explaining. I did not take what you said as bragging, so no worries. If it was just you using the name, it might have gone unnoticed; however, there is an onslaught of “black Barbies” lately, which disturbs me more than a little bit. And I totally get that you are speaking for yourself only. It’s funny, because I’ve had a similar experience. People have always said I look like a doll (not Barbie specifically) or called me “dollface” “babydoll” “dollbaby” or “the doll” [not really fond of the last one since it is the name for The Lady Chablis (drag queen from “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”) lol]. My ex had a small cousin who moved here a few years ago from Puerto Rico and she called me “titi munequita”, which is slang for “auntie baby doll” and she would name all her black dolls some variation of my name. I’m an attractive woman, but I feel like the way I look is the least of who I am (it’s actually nothing when compared to my intelligence, sense of humor, wisdom and sincerity – not bragging either) so I try not to hang too much of my self esteem on it. But that is JUST ME. Nothing wrong with being proud of the way you look (also not implying that you hang too much of your self-esteem on it either). You sound like you are very intelligent, so it might have been nice to see a “shout out” to that aspect of yourself as your moniker, especially since there are so many “Barbies” running around (I think you recognize this because you call yourself “The Original…”) Just a thought.

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

Lol btw…the “auntie baby doll” thing was too cute.🙂
