This story is straight crazy:

A businesswoman stabbed to death by her ‘controlling’ husband had been trying to ‘get away’ from him for seven years, the Old Bailey heard today. Olga Pleguezuelos, 35, was knifed five times in the head, face and neck after 53-year-old Mark Campbell read a text message she had received from another man.

Miss Pleguezuelos was due to start a new life in Las Vegas after being promoted to communications manager for Aristocrat Technologies, a gaming company which makes slot machines. She was attacked by Campbell, an internet gambling entrepreneur, as she slept at their penthouse apartment in Harrow-on-the Hill, north-west London, last October. Her close friend Damien Greig, told the court today she had told Campbell their relationship was over during an emotional dinner ther three shared in April.

Campbell, the CEO of an online gaming business, repeatedly left the restaurant table throughout the night, leaving Miss Pleguezuelos to reveal what was going on. Mr Greig, who also worked for Aristocrat, said they had previously seemed like a ‘normal, happy couple’ but he then noticed Miss Pleguezuelos had started to lose weight. Fighting back tears, he told jurors: ‘She said the reason why she lost a lot of weight was the financial issues she and Mark were having and the pressure and the stress of the relationship she was in with Mark.

‘She said he was controlling.’ Before going for dinner, Campbell burst in to tears and Miss Pleguezuelos had told Mr Greig the relationship ‘wasn’t working’. She then confided in her friend while her husband excused himself from the table.

In June last year, Campbell contacted Mr Greig and told him he was taking his wife to St Lucia to ‘win her back’.

Despite this Miss Pleguezuelos had told Mr Greig, who she described as her closest friend in London, that the marriage was not working. The court has heard she was killed only two days after arriving back from a three-week work trip to Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Las Vegas. While she was away she sent a text message to Mr Greig, which said: ‘I had a great, great weekend, I would love you to be here so much. ‘It’s funny you’re the only person I miss. I split up with Mark, it never worked, at least we tried. I love him to die for, but I am not in love.’

Mr Greig said he only spoke to her on the phone once during the trip and she ‘sounded like a little child’. ‘It was the most I heard Olga be so excited. She had the job she always wanted and she was starting a new life,’ he added.

Mr Greig said Miss Pleguezuelos had not talked to him about another man. The court has heard that only hours before the killing, Campbell had read a text message from the other man ‘which demonstrated a degree of intimacy’ with his wife. He called emergency services hours to the couple’s flat, only after he had cut his own neck and wrists. Campbell has admitted manslaughter, but denies murder on the grounds of lack of intent and provocation.

‘While Mark was away Olga starts to explain more detail about their relationship,’ Mr Greig said. ‘Seven days before she was killed she contacted her husband from Las Vegas to tell him the relationship was over, even though she would always continue to love him, she was not in love with him any longer.’ Campbell, of Harrow, admits manslaughter but denies murder.

The trial continues.

Damn. That sounds like some crazy dysfunctional ish right here.
