A man was mauled to death by tigers after he and his son wandered into the animals’ enclosure in a north China wildlife park. Park officials were able to save the boy Sunday afternoon after they found the father lying on the ground with several Manchurian tigers nearby, according to the Singapore newspaper Today. The man had suffered neck injuries during the attack, but his son only suffered minor injuries.

According to the boy, the two had walked into the enclosed area after automatic gates opened in front of them. An investigation following the incident found that a park worker had not properly closed the gate beforehand.

The man, 45, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. He had taken his son, 17, to the park as a reward for finishing a university entrance exam.

Wow. It’s sad that the young man had to witness his father dying a tragic death, but when will people learn not to mess with wild animals in their habitat?? That’s the ultimate setup right there.
