Nelson Mandela To Greet FIFA Fans At World Cup Final Tonight
Nelson Mandela’s grandson says South Africa’s former president will greet fans at the World Cup final on Sunday. Mandla Mandela says his 91-year-old grandfather will make a brief appearance before the game Sunday and then watch the final from home.
The anti-apartheid icon has kept a low profile during the monthlong tournament, having decided against attending the opening game on June 11 following the death of his great granddaughter in a traffic accident coming home from a kickoff concert. FIFA had not announced who will present the trophy to either Spain or the Netherlands at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
