Bossip caught up with T.I. at the soundcheck for last night’s AXE Music One Night Only Show at NYC nightspot Capitale.
The event marked the first live performance for T.I. since his release from prison and being wed to Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. Just before the show we asked T.I. how he’s grown musically and as an actor.
On his acting:
“You grow as an actor with the more movies you get under your belt. With every experience you must grow. If you endure it, you grow from it.”
On his music:
“My music grows with my manhood. I rap about my life. As I grow in life I must grow in music. I must honestly interpret what’s in and around my being, if it’s not around me then I can’t speak on it. I’ve always been that way from my first album to my last.”
On his role in “Takers”
“This film “Takers” has given the opportunity to put more creativity into my acting and has challenged me in a way because my first two characters were so easy to like…this character [in “Takers”] is by some people’s definition ‘a bad guy’…so I had to find ways to get people to like the character and get people to empathize with the character..that was a challenge for me.”

Expect to see T.I. doing more films and less recording in the future. In a recent interview with MTV.com T.I. expressed a desire to devote more energy into his acting career and less as a “full-time rapper”.
