“We want to pay homage to the ladies who are rocking Jordan kicks on the daily, and we’ve teamed up with New York-based creative visionary Vashtie Kola to do just that. As a constant trendsetter and one of the best at mixing contrasting styles, we knew Vashtie would have a fresh take on the classic Air Jordan 2.
This limited-edition shoe brings a lavender and deep-purple colorway to deliver a more feminine style. The details didn’t go overlooked either, with hints of silver integrated into the laces to complement the metallic midsole. These shoes will be available exclusively in kids sizes on October 2nd, and stay tuned over the next few weeks for an inside look at the Holiday 2010 Girls Collection.”

Kola was born and raised in Albany, New York as the youngest of three children born of Trinidadian parents and is of Asian Indian and Black Trinidadian descent. Vashtie moved to New York City in 1999 to attend film school at The School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where she studied directing/cinematography. At the same time, Kola interned at RSA/Black Dog Films and HSI while working part-time for James Jebbia at Stussy in SoHo.
In 2008, after many years of deliberation, Kola finally launched her signature brand VIOLETTE, described in style as, “if Louis Vuitton had a daughter living in the Lower East Side. She’d be rocking a cool t-shirt, kicks, and a great handbag”. Playing on her personal tom-boy style, mixed with a fashion forward sensibility, Violette is currently carried at specialty boutiques like Colette in Paris.
We love seeing people in the industry who do not go the stereotypical route. Shout out to Vashtie and keep doing your thing, girl!
