A New York college student suffered an unspeakable crime last week, that might have been prevented if only convicted sex offenders were more closely monitored or given heavier sentences!

A Harlem man accused of robbing and sexually assaulting a CCNY student is a registered sex offender with criminal convictions that date back nearly 30 years, officials said yesterday.

Cops said Lawrence Elliot, 47, followed the student, 21, into her apartment building near St. Nicholas Park at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Police said the woman was checking her mail when Elliot approached and told her he had a gun.

He allegedly forced her to perform a sex act on him before he robbed her of several items, including her debit card.

Elliot was later caught on a surveillance camera after he tried to use the young woman’s bank card at a bodega ATM, authorities said.

Police picked him up Friday and questioned him into Saturday before he was officially charged yesterday.

Charges against Elliot include predatory sexual assault, criminal assault, criminal sex act, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, sexual abuse and criminal possession of stolen property.

Elliot was convicted in 1993 of using a knife to rape an 18-year-old girl in Syracuse, for which he did time.

Sources said Elliot has been arrested in the past on a number of charges, including burglary, menacing, grand larceny and patronizing a prostitute.

Just cut that danged thang off already. That’ll teach his a*s!
