If she can’t win you over with the music, Nicki Minaj is determined to win you over on personality. And we’re not talking the funny faces and schizo voices. Nicki wants you to love her cuz she’s so real.

Nicki says her new documentary “My Time Now” is an opportunity for the fans who have in fact fallen in love with the crazy – and the critics who hate her for it – to meet the girl behind the hype.

“They’re gonna meet Onika,” she told MTV News about the doc. “Everybody sees Nicki Minaj; they’re gonna meet Onika. They’re gonna hear my story, and it’s such an inspirational story, which I never really wanted to tell. ‘Cause everyone always feels like you don’t want people to know too much. But when I saw what [MTV and production company @radical.media] did, I thought, ‘People need to see this.’ It reminds you that everyone always feels like this is it, but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, and I feel like that’s what the doc says at the end.”

In the documentary, cameras follow Nicki over three months as she travels back to her native Trinidad for the first time in seven years; records her debut album, Pink Friday; and purchases a home in New York for her mother.

“I am amazed at what I’ve seen in this film,” Minaj said in a statement. ” … This film is my heart & soul. The visual component to Pink Friday. My fans are the most incredible humans on this planet. Words could never translate my gratitude. Thank you for standing by me. It’s our time now.”

In the latest trailer for “My Time To Now,” set to debut on MTV this Sunday, Nicki revisits her pre-USA childhood days and is moved to tears when asked about her grandmother and the time she spent apart from her mom in Trinidad.

“A lot of times when you’re from the islands your parents will leave and then send for you because it’s easier when they’ve established themselves and they have a place to stay and they have a job. I thought it would be two days but it turned into two years without my mother.”

She also speaks candidly about her dad’s drug addiction.

“We didn’t know, but he fell victim to crack right after he moved to America. And then when you’re on crack, you can’t keep a job. And when you can’t keep a job, you don’t have money. And when you don’t have money you steal; and you steal from your family.”

She almost lost us when, immediately after crying, her makeup was being touched up. Like there’s a limit to just how human this chick is really going to get.
