Hovi Hov’s Got A Best Seller On His Hands!!! But Is There Beef Between Him And His ‘Decoded’ Co-Author Dream Hampton???

- By Bossip Staff

Just before this week’s New York Times Best Sellers list dropped, showing Jay-Z’s ‘Decoded’ at the number three position on the Non-Fiction list, rumors started running that the book’s co-author, Dream Hampton, was feeling a little miffed about the amount of credit Hovi Hov’s been giving her. But is beef really brewing?

In an exclusive statement to Bossip, Hampton says emphatically NO.

“Not at all! He gave me thee sweetest shoutout in the acknowledgement section, said I wrote it on HOT 97. The book is a COLLABO and we’re both happy as sh*t about it’s debut at #3 on the NY Times BestSeller list.”

Shortly after we asked, Hampton clarified the situation further. Head over to BossipTwitter.com to see what she had to tweet about it.

Why are people trying to make a story out of nothing? He wrote in the book, thank you and she’s a Godsend! Jay-Z gives credit where credit is due, period! Stop making up salacious headlines for nothing!

Dream has been emphatic that she’s not upset…she was the ghostwriter….hence she doesn’t appear on the cover but in between the cover.

  • Cleva

she isn’t upset at all and is very pleased. She posted on twitter all of this is BS.

I j-u-s-t finished reading the book. ($35.00 that I got for $22.00) and although it was what I consider a slow reader, I thought it was good.

As far as Dream, (going into the living room to read the acknowledgement to her) the acknowledgement may be short but it’s really nice. In fact, she is his 1st shout out (pg. 309–after the epilogue talking about being over LA Reid’s house when he 1st met Oprah)

Damn–should he offer her his first born? damn–some people want blood!

I thought the book was a little different. The style of writing wasn’t what i was used to and that alone made it interesting enough. What got redundant was his CONSTANT talk about the drug game. I also expected to read about his marriage when in fact, I didn’t see not ONE spot or mention of it. I also thought he would go in depth about shooting his brother but he didn’t.

He did talk about his nephew and his cousin (I think) dying tragically.

I didn’t know that he died in a car Jay-Z bought him nor did I know the other died at six from falling out of a window.

On the left side of the book tells the song while the right side interprets the meaning.

Very different but well written. I’d say I got my $22.00 worth. Now, I’m going to wrap it and give it as a Christmas gift. (Don’t judge me…don’t judge me!!)

I’m surprised his book would even reach #3. I thought all of Jay-Z’s ignorant stans would be illiterate -_-

  • G-La

Please stop being insidious, there is no beef! How much props does she need? The book is not about her.

  • Lawd da Mercy

    Oh there’s a scandal???
    Surrounding Jay-Z’s book???
I guess I better go grab it and make it #1 instead of #3 huh!?!

  • missaah

I have always been interested in artist like Jay Z. He is a master in art of storytelling and capturing the mind state of a hustler being from experience and a sense of fascination of the times of one. Honestly most rappers have not been able to catch that moment or create that image. A lot of Rap has seemed to be complaining, crying or constantly one being hurt by someone and feeling they have to prove something that they should already be. It seems the music has died and so has the American pie. Reason to support true artist, creativity and music. Book will def. be a must have for me.
