There’s nothing like the ho sh*t that contributes to the wealth of others.
Rihanna‘s nekkedness on the January cover of GQ, which we now know was the beginning of a year of ho sh*t made it rain on newsstands last year.
Her January GQ cover, on which she posed topless, was th magazine’s second-best seller of the year through November. The Barbadian beauty’s August Seventeen cover was the mag’s top-selling issue through the end of October.
Strangely, not every cover Rihanna touched turned to newsstand gold. Her July Elle cover barely sold at alll — sold but 285,000 copies.
Lady Gaga‘s naked arss did even better in print.
Lady Gaga was the hottest cover girl in 2010.
The singer with the wild fashion style was a runaway hit for both monthly and biweekly magazines sold on the newsstand, according to WWD.com.
Cosmopolitan magazine’s April issue with Gaga on the cover sold 1.7 million copies. Her gun-totin’ July 8 Rolling Stone cover translated into newsstand sales of 245,000 copies, nearly three times better than the year’s average.
Gaga’s Vanity Fair cover in September sold 450,000 copies, the magazine’s second-best seller of the year.
You know what doesn’t sell magazines? Jessica Simpson with no makeup. And Taylor Swift, who people are just now figuring out is boring. Her Elle, Glamour and Marie Claire covers all tanked.
