Oprah’s OWN Network Sees A Dip In Ratings After Great Premiere Weekend

- By Bossip Staff

Damn, looks like some of those early negative criticisms might have hurt ol’ Harpo….

Oprah Winfrey’s new cable network is having some early growing pains.

After exploding out of the gate in the ratings (and on a Saturday, no less), viewership for OWN has declined significantly.

While OWN’s premiere averaged 1 million primetime viewers last weekend, Sunday dropped to 822,000. Monday fell to 394,000, followed by Tuesday hitting 315,000. In the network’s target of women 25-54, OWN went from an opening night rating of 0.6 to a 0.2 at the start of the week.

Compared to other women’s networks, OWN was still remarkably competitive, though entrenched rivals like Oxygen and WE have mostly closed the gap (with Lifetime remaining out in front).

We’re sure that this will turn around at some point, Oprah is not one to go down without a fight

The ratings went down because they are showing re-runs. Once she gets her full program schedule flowing, the ratings will be right back up. I know that’s what I’m waiting for…

Oprah Winfrey hates Black men! Notice you rarely see BM around her on her shows. I have no idea why so many Black people like her when she could care less about Black people especially Black men. Wise up people!!!

One of the most painful things to see amongst black people are individuals who cannot objectively criticize our own. To say Oprah “owes us nothing” as so many of you have said, is to say that racism and exclusion of blacks is a figment of our imagination.

So if Oprah owes us nothing, then what does corporate America owe us? What does NBC, CBS, ABC, American Express, Citi Group, Limited Brands, GE, The GAP etc. owe us. Why do we need affirmative action? Why should we expect “the man” to respect us, include us, and give us opportunities when we don’t even have the same expectations for our “OWN”. Considering black unemployment is higher than any other demo, it is no wonder. If we can’t expect anything from our own, then why would we expect anything from an outsider…. or white society? This is the same concept of black people calling each other NI@@ER and expecting others to NOT call us NI@@ER. If we don’t respect ourselves and demand more from each other be it a self hating misogynist rapper, a loud mouth ghetto black woman on the bus, or a black female media billionaire, then why should anyone else respect us.

Sadly this post is replete with hypocritical and short sited concepts that protect those who have abandoned the black community and it’s nothing short of disgusting. How we treat the least of these is a basic concept that Jesus taught us (MAT 25:40). Continuing the cycle of treating people with color with the attitude of exclusion is a is bad look, especially when it is coming from our “OWN”.
