Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re most likely aware of the negative media blitz surrounding Steve Harvey after his second ex-wife (Mary L. Harvey) released several YouTube videos depicting him as an unfaithful, manipulative, and selfish ex-husband. The negative attention is surely affecting Mr. Harvey’s reputation and book sales. And as expected, his attorneys have stated that he (and his current wife) plan to bring defamation lawsuits against his ex-wife. It’s all a big mess, and as seen from the unresolved feelings in her YouTube videos, Mary’s unhealed wounds are sure to be ripped open even wider.

I was told years ago by a very wise person that there are 3 sides to a story: her side, his side, and the truth. So I won’t make any assumptions. Most of us don’t know the absolute details of Mary and Steve’s failed marriage, but she is still obviously in pain. And we can all definitely relate to a topic that is very relevant to Mary L. Harvey’s situation- and that topic is “closure.” After watching her YouTube videos, Mary’s visibly unresolved pain reminded me of so many other women. I feel for her and I hope she eventually gets closure. But most important, I hope women will listen closely to and learn from her situation. We’ve all felt angry, disappointed, and even shocked when a relationship that we gave so much to didn’t last. But women need to understand that no matter how a relationship ends, whether you leave him or he leaves you, you can always reclaim your power and move on. Closure is not something a man gives you, it is something that you give yourself.
