3. State of the Union. Public employees in Wisconsin and Ohio are fighting mad. Those two states are at the forefront of the battle to save unions. For decades unions have used the power of numbers to make joint negotiations for its members. States’ officials say they can no longer afford to cover the costs of the health benefit packages and pensions the unions have negotiated. They want union members to shoulder more of the expense and to limit, or eliminate, their collective bargaining power.
