She may be dealing with some drama in her personal life, but that doesn’t mean Miley Cyrus isn’t seen as a role model for today’s youth — at least according to one organization. The teenage actress was honored at a gala over the weekend, where she received the first ever Global Action Youth Leadership Award.
According to Digital Spy, fellow actress and Disney alum Hilary Duff presented the award — which honors inspirational figures in the youth community — to Cyrus at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
Cyrus revealed that Duff has served as her own inspiration in her career.
“I got to tell you that I never thought I would get an award from Hilary Duff,” she said. “This is like a dream come true to me. She inspired me.”
She continued her acceptance speech, urging kids to follow their own dreams, and not just the dreams of those around them.
“I want [kids] to do something they love,” Cyrus said. “Not something that seems like a chore because someone tells them that’s the right thing to do or what their parents want or what’s important to people around them, but what’s in their heart.”
Hold up: didn’t doing what someone else wanted make her rich and famous to begin with? Ol’ ungrateful, hypocritical a**.
