Perverts: Florida Congressman Being Sued For Sexual Harassment By Former Aide, Asked Her About Her Panties

Another day, another lawsuit…

A former aide has sued a Florida congressman — claiming he touched her, made unwelcome sexual advances and asked her about her underwear.

The lawsuit against Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) was announced Monday by the conservative legal group, Judicial Watch, on behalf of former aide Winsome Packer. Hastings, a 74-year-old divorced father of three, vehemently denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a political attack.

Packer, a Republican, was a staff member of the Democrat-controlled U.S. Comssission on Security and Cooperation in Europe. Hastings was the chairman at the time.

“I am insulted that these ludicrous allegations are being made against me,” Hastings said in a statement. “When all the facts are known in this case, the prevailing sentiment will be, ‘How bizarre!’ ”

In the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, Packer claims she was “forced to endure unwelcome sexual advances, crude sexual comments and unwelcome touching” by Hastings from January 2008 to February 2010.

During one incident, Hastings said in front of several staffers that he couldn’t understand how women in Congress could wear the same underwear from the time the House of Representatives went into session in the morning until it recessed at night, according to the lawsuit.

Hastings, who was elected to Congress in 1992, then asked Packer what kind of underwear she was wearing, the suit contends.

In separate instances, Packer rebuffed several advances Hastings made inviting himself to her room, the suit contends. Fred Turner, the commission’s former staff director, also was named in the lawsuit, alleging that both he and Hastings threatened to fire her because she continued to object to the politician’s conduct.

Judicial Watch is suing Hastings for monetary relief, arguing Packer suffered from health problems — including insomnia, anxiety and depression — as a result of the alleged sexual harassment. She was forced to leave her job, the suit says.
