President Obama Puts His Foot Down … No More Sending U.S. Jobs Overseas

- By Bossip Staff

Does this mean the days of our customer service calls being transferred to India are over? It’s hard not to get frustrated with someone dealing with your money, credit card and cell phone accounts when there’s a gaping language barrier.

(AP) End tax breaks that reward some U.S. companies with overseas subsidiaries and encourage those businesses to create jobs in other countries, President Barack Obama is telling Congress.

Yet it’s an idea that has raised concerns even among some lawmakers in the president’s own party.

At issue is a bill, now stalled in the Senate, that would do away with some tax credits and deferrals for U.S. companies for operations abroad.

“There is no reason why our tax code should actively reward them for creating jobs overseas,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday. “Instead, we should be using our tax dollars to reward companies that create jobs and businesses within our borders.”

Though President Obama singled out Republican opposition, the bill also failed to get support from some Democrats, including the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont. He has expressed concern that the change would put the U.S. at a competitive disadvantage.

The ending of the tax provisions has run into opposition from business groups, including the National Association of Manufacturers.

Mr. Obama said that while companies that conduct business internationally do make an important contribution to the U.S. economy, it doesn’t make sense to grant them tax breaks when companies at home are struggling to rebound from the economic crisis.

You know President Obama can’t do anything without the GOP slamming him, right?

In the GOP address, Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to call Congress back into session to take an immediate vote on whether to extend Bush-era tax cuts.

“The prosperity of the American people is more important than the political fortunes of any politician or any political party,” Pence said.

The tax cuts have been a point of contention between the president and Republicans in the lead-up to the midterm elections. The GOP wants to extend the tax cuts for all Americans, including the top income earners, while Obama wants to extend the tax cuts only for the middle class – those families earning less than $250,000 a year.

We understand everybody has to eat but “Bob” the overworked, attitudinal tech support guy in North Dakota somewhere … we appreciate you!

He said that during the last election. He didn’t do jack sh*t about it and now he’s saying it again during this election. I love him, I’ll stump for him again and I’m going to vote for him again, but he’s full of sh*t for the most part like all politicians. I know he wanted to change things when he got in office, but the political machine will not allow it. I think he will do much more for this country after he leaves office, but I need him to stay for now so they don’t kill the healthcare bill before it goes into effect.

No more sending jobs overseas, huh? Ok. And no more 99c flip flops for your butt neither. Pick one: (A) Jobs or (B) your local WalMart filled to the brim with cheap plastic crap because you can’t have both. The problem with yall Americans is you want 8 hour workdays, vacation time, health insurance, pensions and sick time. The little 9 year old Chinese boy who is making your flip flops as we speak didn’t ask for none of that but let Joe in Milwaukee make them. Those things’ll be $47.59.

    • scatter

I’d prefer to pay more for anything if that means my people can actually earn a living. And I dont shop at wal-mart i’m a bougie ni@@a. With no kind of savings and alot of fresh sh!t. Sad but true i’m so damn fly.

  • always knew

If that would give AMericans jobs, oh well, let’s just pay the increase, otherwise I really dont want to hear it.. there are tons of unemployed people that need a job, tired of pep and maria, taking over every damn thing.. 😦

  • ItsWhatever

HE bedda do sumthin…..or else his job will be over there….hee hee hee

International Business is very complicated. It’s easier said then done, what the President is trying to do, but if we want to keep getting products in the U.S. that we can afford, we have to do business overseas to have these products made. They have to come up with a solid plan that is a win win, but they haven’t. Once we adopted Capitalism it created a problem. Most of the clothes we wear are from different country, our cars, gas. We have to start going overseas to work that is the reality of it.

  • super steph!

ok…ending tax breaks and subsidies wont do anything…it will still be 1200x cheaper to produce, grow, etc. elsewhere. just do as the hippies do and purchase local sh!t and salvation army clothes if youre really concerned 🙂

  • Unico

Even the most simple job would do. People still question why they are getting tech support from some guy in India named “Bob”.

heck, even mini US flags are made in China… whats up with that?

  • Anon

Here’s the thing, these large corporations benefiting from these tax breaks are making record profits, despite their layoffs. Meaning they’re asking employees to do more and the higher ups are raking in the dough. I agree that we need to end the tax breaks. Why are we rewarding companies for helping other countries? Those countries should be providing the tax breaks. U.S. based companies should provide employment in the U.S. and re-organize the compensation and bonus structures to account for costs of production, etc.
