The cajones on THIS guy…

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s image as a GOP budget cutter is taking a hit, as Democrats pounce on his helicopter ride to his son’s high school baseball game.

“Gov. Christie obviously doesn’t include himself in his hollow call for shared sacrifice,” Democratic state Assemblyman Paul Moriarty told the Associated Press.

State Sen. Loretta Weinberg, also a Democrat, told MSNBC Wednesday that Christie demonstrated “a certain arrogance” and “needs much more self control.”

Christie, elected in 2009, has rebuffed repeated entreaties to run for president from fellow Republicans enamored with his cost-cutting zeal and insistence that public employee unions share in the state’s fiscal austerity. As a federal prosecutor, he cracked down on elected officials who misused public funds.

The governor’s spokesman, Kevin Roberts, said Christie will not reimburse the state for Tuesday’s chopper ride. “The use of air travel has been limited and appropriate,” he is quoted as saying in The Star-Ledger of Newark.

State helicopters cost $2,500 an hour to operate. Col. Rick Fuentes, superintendent of New Jersey’s state police, said in a statement there was “no additional cost to taxpayers or the State Police budget” for the ride to Montvale in Bergen County.

Apparently Gov. Christie is missing the entire point. Regardless of whether or not it was “budget approved” it looks bad to all the people who you are asking to “sacrifice”. As a politician surely one would think that he understand that perception is reality…

Do you think Christie was out of pocket for taking the helicopter to the game??
