Gabrielle Union Speaks About Rihanna’s “Man Down” Video: “I Tried To Shoot My Rapist”

- By Bossip Staff

Amidst all the controversy over her “Man Down” video, Rihanna gained some praise this weekend from Gabrielle Union, who applauded the pop singer for getting people to talk about rape. Gabby just returned from D.C. earlier in the week where she attended the National Advistory Committee on Violence Against Women meetings.

For those not already aware, Union was raped at gunpoint when she was 19-years-old during the robbery of the California shoe store where she worked. She’s been outspoken about rape since the incident, trying to help other victims and prevent the crime from happening. She shared her thoughts on the “Man Down” video and even explained how she tried shooting her attacker but felt relieved that she missed in retrospect.

I concur. Although the murder of your rapist is morally justified.

  • G.M.

u bible thumpers are such hypocrites…funny how “thou shall not kill” gets tossed out the window so quick, what happen to leaving it up to god, forgiving and walking in love lol XD…why do y’all even claim a religion so many of y’all have a hard time following??? smh

    • WithAllHonesty

And the Arabs haven’t distorted Islam to control people…

Religion as a whole is guilty…

  • JustAshley

I agree with Gabby. I’ve heard her story before, and I applaud her for speaking about this issue so openly.

I get dat..but anger is anger and its “of the moment”..take a hungry family for instance, the term “God will provide” is used excessively they r hungry RYT NOW..with that term comes instant expectation but dat duznt mean food will rain from da if some1 did sumthin 2 u,u want da same thing done to them instantly..u want them 2 feel da way u feel and wish bad luck on dem 4 da rest of their life coz uR a victim n ofcourse u feel u don’t deserve wat they wanting revenge is a HUMAN feeling..I’m not excusing da act of revenge bt as a human during certain moments u want action and justice to be served n justice can be anything in an Angry moment..da bible is not on ur mind 24/7..its only after its happened and uv healed dat u seek da word..being human is being human

    • G.M.

then the bible is just a tool for ppl to feel they’re forgiven for doing something they know was wrong in the first place & handled the wrong way…Gabrielle didn’t wish sh1t, she just confessed to attempted murder…being angry/having something bad happen to u isn’t justification to commit a crime/murder & committing a crime becuz one was committed to u isnt justice…and defying the beliefs of christianity pretty much doesn’t make u a christian…why learn/study the word if ur not going to apply it when necessary, it makes it pointless smh

I have seen some of the most jacked up things happen to people who had used me, abused me, stolen from me, lied against me and mistreated me.
And I always look at these people and think to myself, “I would have never been able to get you as bad as God GOT you.”
And in the Old Testament Manna fell from the sky to feed the people. šŸ˜‰

    • JustAshley

Revenge is human but to forgive is divine. IMHO

  • http://bossip Public Enemy #1........A Blk Man who has knowledge of Self!

    @ Just Ashley…

Used you? Abused you? stolen from you? and just downright mistreated you??

And you didn’t realize the choices you made in the company you keep?

    • JustAshley

I’m a loner for the most part. So the situations I am referring to was 1 female friendship, 2 family members and a previous manager.
Nothing sexual. I’m speaking on abuse meaning pockets, homes, cars, stolen work- things of that nature.

    • JustAshley

I know its shocking to comprehend but not every bad thing that happens indicates bad choices on the part of the victim. Sometimes bad stuff just happens to regular, everyday, NORMAL people who did not necessarily INVITE misfortune.

    • WithAllHonesty

Both very true, sometimes bad things happen to good people and sometimes it’s all in the company you keep.

I agree with wat ur saying but I’m talkin about “In the Moment” feelings..its natural as humans to feel da urge to hurt someone dat hurt comes after something has transpired that’s when u leave it all 2 God not coz u weren’t thinking about him but because while something is happening 2 u ur natural instinct is 2 protect urself Ryt then n there..realistically u only think about things After they’ve happened n dats when u leave it all 2 God..but u want the person who’s done u wrong 2 suffer..

    • G.M.

that doesn’t sound very godly to me: wishing ppl to suffer, even the ones that wronged you, never heard that as the answer to what would jesus do? lol XD…and the “in the moment” feeling u speak of are the moments that person should utilize the teachings of their beliefs the most, if not then there is no point to the religion…y’all always claim god test u right??? well from what im hearing and seeing on this thread is a lot of y’all are failing that test and if there is a he11, ur all going…me personally, i dont believe in that fairy tale sh1t and dont get why ppl claim to believe in something they genuinely dont live by.

    @Jerome: Your pathetic

  • wtth

“Man Down” is the espression of a woman who is controlled by the white American corporate structure. It made Rhianna, and when it has no use for her, it will throw her out.

  • team nymphis

oooooh shxt. The s can make a world of difference.
    Bring it on.

  • Bean

Why is this woman still talking about what happaned to her when she was 19? Move on already!

  • J.J.

Everybody really needs to stop criticizing people who speak in behalf of the Bible and morality. The world is so full of violence from people who all have their “own” views of justice! However, the Bible has already given GODS view in reference to retaliation for wrong doing. He states that he will judge the evil-doer. He says to return evil for evil to no man. He will exact punishment to the ones doing wrong in his own time.
