A St. Petersburg man is behind bars after police say he robbed a CVS pharmacy with a one-year-old boy in a stroller. Jeremy Sowers is charged with robbery and child abuse. Sowers walked into the pharmacy at 4260 Sixth St. South at around 9 p.m. Tuesday night. An unidentified 11-year-old boy also was with him, police said.
Sowers gave a 26-year-old woman at the pharmacy counter a note that said, “This is a robbery. I have a gun and will shoot. Give me narcotics. I have kidnapped a store employee. Don’t call police for 20 minutes.”
Sowers got away $5,000 worth of medications, including the pain killer Oxycodone, police said. No store employees were kidnapped or harmed. Sowers, 23, allegedly took the drugs to a home he shares with his father on 62nd Avenue South. His father found them and called police, said authorities. Officers caught up with Sowers at Bayfront Medical Center where he reportedly was being treated for a drug overdose. He admitted to robbing the store, investigators said.
