Wait A Damn Minute: GOP Slashes Food Aid To Low Income Families But Extends Funds To Save Flowers And Animals?

- By Bossip Staff

The wrong-wingers say slash money for food for hungry children but there’s room in the budget to save azalea flowers and protect pet extras in films? Wow!

If you’re an azalea at the National Arboretum, you’re in luck — a Republican on the House Appropriations Committee is looking out for you. If you’re a woman, infant or child, however, you’re on your own.

“The Committee directs the National Arboretum to maintain its National Boxwood Collection and the Glenn Dale Hillside portion of the Azalea Collection,” reads the bill. “The Committee encourages the National Arboretum to work collaboratively with supporters of the National Arboretum to raise additional funds to ensure the long-term viability of these and other important collections.”

While azaleas are being carefully tended to, the bill would cut $832 million from a program that provides food assistance to low-income mothers and children. The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that the reduction could result in as many as 475,000 people being turned away from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) if food prices continue to rise.

Azalea upkeep isn’t the only unusual measure in the bill:

Animal Welfare Act doesn’t Apply to Movie Sets: “APHIS is using vital animal welfare resources to regulate the pets of extras in filmed entertainment. While the Animal Welfare Act’s intent is to establish minimally acceptable standards in the treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers, the law was not aimed at regulating companion animals used as extras in the background of movies and television productions. The Committee urges the agency to use the Secretary’s discretionary authority to seek alternative means of meeting its statutory mandate, including the option of issuing exemptions or master exhibitor licenses to these pet owners.”

“Everyday people across the country leave their homes in search of work, only to return at the end of the day with more worries and less hope,” said Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), the agriculture subcommittee’s ranking member. “At a time that people continue to struggle to make ends meet, Republicans want to cut funding to food programs that are helping put food on the tables of those most in need.”

Wow! These guys sure know how to prioritize. And, once again, this is why voting in your state and in the mid-terms is not an option! Otherwise, money hungry d*ckheads like these guys have control over not just “The House” but your house too. SMH

WIC and food stamps are not the same. WIC is for children 5 and under and for pregnant or breastfeeding moms and on WIC only get stuff like fruits veggies milk formula cheese its actually alot healthier then getting food stamps which allows you to get whatever…i dont understand why they would cut WIC

  • saywhat!

If u need wic during ur pregnancy or for ur child’s first few years then maybe it wasn’t a great idea to get pregnant. And I don’t wanna hear tht, it was an accident bs, if u have financial problems don’t drag an innocent child into it. Thts what’s not fair to me. If u do have a child and can’t provide then they need to adopt tht child out to a stable, well educated married couple who may be dealing with fertility issues. Don’t just bring them into poverty and start the cycle all over. I know damn well my husband and I don’t need wic to nurish our child? Thts becuz we mad good choices in life.

Maybe with the food funds being shortend, so of these baby mamma’s will go get a job!…only wishing and praying!

  • Steelcitychick

@ saywhat!…I hear you loud and clear! Completely agree with you!

  • Jesse

    What jobs will they find?
College grads can’t even find jobs right now and you feel that all the blacks on wic and welfare should have it taken away?
So then you must think they should all just die then right?
Try thinking the thing all the way through.
If you were to do that you’d probably shut up.

  • Toni

What’s with all the baby momma talk that’s not always the case I have my bachelors degree in accounting and was with a firm for 5 years and was pregnant during the fourth year and got laid off I have money saved up but not enough for the day to day and I do have WIC and it helps alot

  • Steelcitychick

@ Jess, maybe McDonalds, convience stores, grocery stores, or any place that will have them. I’ve seen senior citizens holding these jobs, just because what they’re SS isn’t cutting it….but oh…I forgot they’re too good for these jpbs, cause they have a MBA from MIT!…gtfoh!

  • feverpitch

Ignorant fools cussing about baby mommas, its not just for baby mommas only its also for people who got laid off and can’t make ends meet due to this cripling economy your president isn’t able to control. I would rather see my tax money to feed a poor single mom or a poor innocent infant than to feed BoBo the elephant or an effing flower. Bottom line humans are worth more than anything else in this world, I’m not surprised that you self hating black ignorant fools fail to see that. Try having a heart once in a while.

Why should the government have to feed your children? Why can’t your baby daddy feed you and your children. Did you tell your case worker you had savings. Stop having children you can’t afford …Dah. Dont folks have any shame any more! Taxpayers in America don’t mind feeding children or the poor! Try birth control have some shame …..begging the government to feed children you can’t afford! Walking around 16 years with your belly popped out…dang….welfare! Have some shame. Truly ignorant to bringing children into the world you can’t afford that’s ignorant ….2011! IGNORANT IS GETTING PREGGERS AND YOU AND BABY DADDY KNOW YOU CAN’T AFFORD CHILDREN AND ARE OUT RANDOM HUMPING…MISTAKE RIGHT! @Tony have some dignity ask baby daddy to buy food so you dont have to ask taxpayers to feed your child! Cuss him out tell him you and yours ain’t going on welfare! Stop getting mad because people want feed bobo vs what you free humped and produced! Have some dignity! THINK ABOUT IT! Sure life happens but do young women look around and think about going to beg the government to feed their children? How do you look the man in the face knowing he wont feed your child? But get mad at case worker for asking about the father?? Why bring that kind of shame on your children?
