Congrats to Melanie:
“The X-Factor” has crowned its first American Champion. Melanie Amaro, who was briefly sent packing from the reality competition show earlier in the season only to be later reinstated, went home with a $5 million recording contract and a starring role in a Pepsi commercial. “Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God,” was all the teary 19-year-old could muster when host Steve Jones announced her win.
Amaro beat out runner up Josh Krajcik, a single father whose inspirational story seemed to strike a chord with many fans, and Chris Rene, a 28-year-old singer-rapper from California who overcame drug and alcohol addition through his music. The Sunrise, Fla., product’s soulful rendition of Beyonce’s ballad “Listen,” which she also sang at her audition, may have put her over the top in Wednesday’s final performance round.
“I want to say, ‘America, thank you for giving this girl an opportunity,'” “The X-Factor” creator and judge Simon Cowell, who mentored Amaro during the show, told the crowd. “She will represent this country, she is a star. I am very, very proud and very grateful.”
