A South Bend School Corporation bus driver has been charged with having sex with a student, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The driver, 32-year-old Monisha Simpson, is accused of child seduction, a Class D felony, for an alleged sexual relationship with a 16-year-old Clay High School student.

According to prosecutors, Simpson met the student while driving the school bus on which he rode. Simpson also drove the bus for Clay High School’s football team and the victim was a member of the team.

Simpson allegedly picked the student up from school and took him to her house, where he would hang out with her and her children, the prosecutor’s office said. The teen told investigators that he and Simpson engaged in intercourse and oral sex at her home in August 2011.

Although the student told investigators that he lied about his age to Simpson — claiming to be 18 instead of 16 — prosecutors contend that the bus driver would have known he was still a high school student.

Under Indiana law, an employee of a school cannot have sexual relations with a student under their supervision, even if that student is 18.

Simpson is in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail and has an initial hearing in February; her bond has been set at $20,000 corporate surety.
