Woman Breaks Into South Dakota Home To Breastfeed Stranger’s Baby

This is a tad bit bizarre:

A woman accused of trying to breast feed a stranger’s child after breaking into an eastern South Dakota home, then crawling into a bed after the mother called police, is facing a criminal charge, authorities said Monday.

The mother called 911 around 5 a.m. Sunday to report that a woman she didn’t know had entered her home in Brookings and tried to breast feed her 2-month-old daughter, Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers said.

The mother was able to safely take her daughter away from the 24-year-old suspect, who police said then treated the home as her own until police arrived. “After she called police, she found the suspect lying in her bed,” Powers said, adding that alcohol might have played a role in the incident.

It was unclear whether the infant and mother were in the same room when the woman came into the home, but the mother was awoken by dogs, police said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with unlawful occupancy, which is a misdemeanor. Powers declined to identify the suspect, and it wasn’t clear Monday whether she had an attorney or when she would appear in court.
