Sunday morning, three families woke up to find racist graffiti spray painted on their cars. The culprits struck sometime overnight on Echo Ridge Place near Brandermill. Investigators are pursuing any leads they can find. Because of the damage totals, when they’re caught the suspects could be facing felony charges for the rude awakening they gave three families. A quiet, typical Sunday morning for the Alexanders was ruined. Bryan was putting his kids in the car for church when a police officer unexpectedly told him to check out the back of his brand new mini-van.

“I couldn’t believe that it happened,” he recalled. He took snapshots of the hate. “KKK” was spray painted for the world to see. “In the five years I’ve been here, we have not had any crime,” Bryan explained. “Even the officer he said this is the first time he can ever remember being called into my subdivision.”

Sunday morning, that officer was called to investigate the hate-filled graffiti on four cars at three different houses. The neighborhood is racially diverse. The Alexander’s neighbors are black. The family next door is Asian. Both had cars that were hit. Some were worse than others.

“My next door neighbor had it on the windshield, the hood, all along the passenger side and the back of their car,” Alexander described. “Then the neighbor on the other side of them had it on two cars. I think I may have been more of an opportunity as they were leaving.”

Alexander’s frustration was escalated. He purchased this car on Saturday. It was the first night in his driveway. “I have to wonder am I going to have it again tonight,” he said. “I’m going to be laying in bed and every car that drives by I’m going to try not to get up and look out. That’s my fear is what’s next.”

And in a bit of irony, these are the last few nights the Alexanders will be spending in this home. They’re moving in ten days. “It’s kind of put a sour note and sour end to an otherwise great experience,” he lamented. Bryan and his neighbors were able to clean most of their cars with paintbrush cleaner. Still, police are looking for the people responsible.
