Woman Murders Own Mother For Being Evicted From Mom’s House
What is going on today?:
A 24-year-old woman is in jail after, police said, she killed her mother just hours after she was evicted from the victim’s home. Clayton County police said Takeyia Guthridge stabbed her mother, Delois Adu, seven times in their home Monday.
The incident happened after Adu asked a judge to evict her daughter in a hearing. The judge fulfilled Adu’s request, giving Guthridge seven days to leave the home.
When they returned, Guthridge asked her mother for money, but when she refused, Guthridge stabbed her in the chest, according to a criminal warrant obtained by Channel 2’s Tom Jones.
He said Adu’s 16-year-old son witnessed the attack, according to the warrant. “He doesn’t want to remember what he saw,” the victim’s friend, Herb Ross, told Jones.
In her response to the eviction, Guthridge wrote to the court, saying her mother knew she was moving back home unemployed. Guthridge also said she’s on her mother’s insurance, and if she’s thrown her out on the street as a homeless person and killed, her body would be returned to her mother.
Meanwhile, Ross insists deputies could have done more to protect Adu.
“(Deputies) should have sent an officer over here and moved her out, but they didn’t'” Ross said.
But deputies said Adu did not fill out any paperwork requesting assistance.
Ross said Adu wasn’t afraid.
‘My wife asked her, ‘Don’t you want some protection?’ She said ‘No, it’s in God’s hands.'”
Guthridge is being held without bail. Her father said she may get a mental health evaluation.
