87-Year-Old Detroit Woman Carjacked

87-year-old Johnnie Mae Ethridge was only two blocks away from her home when she was held at gunpoint and carjacked by two young men in their early twenties.

Still shook up from the horrific experience, Ms. Ethridge told Detroit’s Fox News:

“The other fella was at the rear of the car and he had his gun. I had a problem trying to get the seat belt loose,” Ethridge explained. “Pushed me out of the car, [threw] my cane out and just hopped in the car with my purse and all my I. D. and took off.”

James Barney, a neighbor and Good Samaritan, saw the altercation and raced over to Johnnie Mae’s side to assist her. The thieves jumped a curb during their getaway and popped a tire. They continued to run on foot. Unfortunately the punks got away on foot and the Police are still looking searching for them.

Ethridge’s car was towed. She got her cane back, but her husband’s gold chain (which they snatched off of her neck), along with her purse, wallet, and I.D. are gone.

“They just don’t have [any] respect for [anybody]. It’s terrible,” said Ethridge.

Ethridge is one of many older citizens being affected by crime spikes in Detroit. Well-known Pastor Marvin Winans was also carjacked while exiting a gas station. Fortunately, Ethridge is one who has been fortunate to live and tell her story.
