WTAE reports:
Police Chief Nate Harper said a man on the 16th floor of the high-rise at 3 Gateway Center claims to have a weapon and some sort of explosive.
Harper said the person was apparently targeting someone specific, but he did not say why. He said police have identified the man and are in negotiations.
“His demeanor is, from what we understand, relatively calm. He’s sitting there talking to the negotiators at this time,” Harper said.
A witness at the scene told WTAE’s Bob Mayo that a girl said her father was being held hostage. She ran out of the CW Breitsman Associates office and screamed for someone to call 911. The company’s website describes it as an independent third-party firm that administrates group benefit plans and related programs.
