20 years though???? Tough life for that guy!
A man accused of being intoxicated during a biting assault of his roommate was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison, an official said Friday. Jacques Quinn, 32, was convicted of the felony family violence offense of assault causing bodily injury, stemming from a Jan. 18 incident in Hitchcock, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Quinn was living with his girlfriend and another female roommate. He was accused of biting the roommate’s arm while in a fight with his girlfriend. He stopped biting the woman only after his girlfriend hit him in the back of the head with a pot. Quinn appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic and was hallucinating, the statement said.
The defense claimed someone slipped narcotics into Quinn’s drink, causing him to be involuntarily intoxicated. After finding Quinn guilty, the jury heard evidence of his 15 other criminal convictions, including assault, theft and drug possession, the statement said.
In addition to giving Quinn the maximum prison time allowed by law, the jury fined Quinn $10,000 when it returned its sentencing verdict Wednesday. Brandon Sims prosecuted the case, and defense attorney Jim Bennett represented Quinn.
