Race Matters: Black Family Called “Dumb, Stupid N—-rs” By White Couple While Cutting Down Xmas Tree For The Holidays

How would you like it if your nice holiday festivities were ruined by blatant and unnecessary racism?? One would think racism like this only happens in America, but apparently Canadians are just as bad.

According to Calgary Sun:

What should have been a joyous outing seeking a Christmas tree turned into an ugly racist confrontation that’s left some new Calgarians questioning their chosen city. Laura Sharpe, who moved with her three young children from Toronto to Calgary two years ago, said her family was looking for a tree to cut in Bragg Creek Provincial Park last Thursday after she’d secured a permit to do so.

Sharpe said they’d spotted the ideal evergreen along Hwy. 66 near Gooseberry west of Bragg Creek and were proceeding to cut it down, to install in their Thorncliffe home. “Our permit was on the dashboard in the car and they’d given us a map to show where we could cut down trees,” said Sharpe, 31.

It was then, she said, that a white SUV drove past, then quickly returned to where the mother and her kids, aged 10, 11 and 12 had paused with their new Christmas tree. “It was a white couple and they started taking pictures … they were in their 50s, they could have been school teachers,” recalled.

The man, said Sharpe, then yelled at the four, insisting they had no legal right to harvest a tree, while the woman shot video of them on her smart phone.

“I said ‘it’s not illegal’ and then he called us ‘dumb, stupid n——’ to me and my kids … they were about 10 or 15 feet away from us,” she said.

The couple then quickly drove off, she said.

Sharpe, who’s of Jamaican descent, said she was stunned by the blunt, racist hostility hurled at her and her three children during what should be a time of peace and good will. “I’m so turned off of Calgary now — I don’t know who thinks of me as a dumb, stupid n—– or who doesn’t,” said Sharpe, who came to Calgary when she was transferred by her telecommunications employer.

Soon after the incident, a park ranger appeared and was told of the encounter, said Sharpe.

He listened sympathetically and helped the family secure the tree on the roof of their vehicle, but the mom said her children had already been traumatized by the ignorant couple.

“We were so excited about the tree but this just ruined it — they don’t want to cut down a tree again,” she said.

“The kids were angry, really angry — they asked me all these questions, it put fear in them.”

Tht’s unfortunate that the kids had to experience such ignorance, especially during “the most wonderful time of the year.” SMH.
