A 65-year-old Upstate woman was killed when she was attacked by a dog. The coroner said an autopsy showed that the woman died of neck and spinal injuries. Deputies said they were called to a home on Grumling Road in Greenwood County on Tuesday for an animal bite.

When they arrived they said they tried to go inside the home and found an aggressive pit bull with blood on its mouth, chest and paws at the door. They said at that time, the homeowner and his wife arrived home and said the woman, later identified as Betty Todd, was there babysitting the children while they went to dinner.

The dog was put in a bedroom and the woman was found to be dead. The incident report said Todd had a puncture wounds to her neck, head and face. It said there was also blood on the wall and floor near Todd. The homeowner told said they got a call from their daughter who told them their dog had attacked their babysitter and she needed medical help.

The daughter told her parents she got the children in the home and went to a neighbor’s house. An animal control officer was called to the home and took the dog to the animal shelter.

Wow. So sad. R.I.P.
