A man was shot several times by several people driving at a K-Mart parking lot on Carlisle Boulevard on Sunday evening.
A friend of the victim, Anthony Daly, was inside the store when the shooting took place.
“The store employees came in, and were like, ‘There were gun shots. There were gun shots,’ and I ran out and saw him lying there on the street with bullet holes in his arm, his leg,” said Daly.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, the victim was shoplifting at the store and allegedly pulled a knife on a security employee.
“As the shoplifter was running away, subjects in a white Cadillac crashed into him. Then, they fired two shots at the offender, hitting him two times,” said Officer Robert Gibbs, of the Albuquerque Police Department.
Police believe the suspects in the vehicle got into an altercation with the man earlier.
However, Daly said the incident “was gang-related. It was obviously gang-related.”
The man is in stable condition at a hospital, police said.
According to authorities, the shooters drove off southwest on Carlisle Boulevard, and remain on the loose.
“It’s insane how people will come out and shoot out for a little argument,” said Daly.
