A 41-year-old homeless man who moved into an apartment uninvited — while a resident was away for three weeks — was arrested after leaving a trail of evidence in the apartment, police said.

Anthony Monteleone, 41, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reports said.

The 24-year-old resident and her boyfriend returned home to her first-floor apartment on Willow Avenue near Third Street on Saturday at 5:10 p.m. and found the security chain preventing them from getting into the home, reports said.

Police also found the street door to the basement below the resident’s apartment was hanging off its hinges, reports said. Also, a door frame that led from the basement to the first-floor apartment was damaged and clearly tampered with, reports said.

When the resident and police entered the apartment, it was clear that someone had been living there. The bathtub was full of water and used toiletries were strewn around the bathroom.

As police approached the scene they saw Monteleone — known to them from previous incidents — walking away from the area with wet hair and various objects in his hands, reports said.

There were also numerous other personal belongings scattered around the apartment — none of which belonged tothe tenant, police said.

You can’t turn a ho to a housewife home to a hotel…….unless the owner is away.
