The Presidential Couple, Barack & Michelle Obama grace the cover of Ebony’s February issue. Headz all over are getting ready to be a part of his historic inauguration, including Usher, Mary J Blige, and of course, Beyonce:

Beyonce’s wish of performing at Barack Obama’s inauguration has been granted — well sort of … The “I Am Sasha Fierce” singer will join several artists including Usher at an HBO hosted inaugural concert taking place Jan. 18.

‘We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,’ will celebrate Barack Obama’s rise to the presidency and kick off a near four day schedule of Inaugural events that includes 10 official Inaugural Balls as well as an Inauguration Day eve youth concert at the Verizon Center. Nineteen artists from across several genres, including Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Herbie Hancock, Shakira, Usher, and Sheryl Crowe are confirmed to appear.

The special, slated to air on HBO as well, will feature historical readings from Martin Luther King III, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Queen Latifah. For those traveling to or living in the DMV (District Of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia), the concert is free and open to the public. Bruce Springsteen, John Mellancamp, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban and Heather Headley round out the initial line up for the show.

Could you imagine such a line up if John “The Geezer” McCain had been elected. That sh*t would’ve looked like the f**kin’ Lawrence Welk Show. SMH.

I love the Obama’s and Michelle is my role model!!!!!!!!! See this is the type of future you have to pray for your children when you are naming them….Just think what a difference it would have made in her life, if her name was Tanquisha or Shaketra (no offense to anyone with those names, I am just saying)……smh

  • Lady Architect

Great cover. They look beautiful. OF course Bossip you know MAthew was gonna find a way to smuggle his daughter in there. Sounds like a good show and I would go since I’m in VA, but if you ever sat in DMV traffic on a holiday or rush hour this will be 100times worse. I’ll watch it on TV.

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWSHADDAAAAAAAP!!!!

‘Ebony’ has seriously stepped up it’s editorial game in recent years. And not a moment too soon. Gone are the days when they wrote like their readers hadn’t graduated beyond a fourth grade level. I had grown tired of articles that were ‘informing’ me of issues that were already common knowledge. I know thanks is due to Linda Johnson Rice, President and CEO, Johnson Publishing Company, who took up the helm. The magazine has taken steps in the direction of respected publications like ‘Time’ and ‘Newsweek.’ I think for a news source we, People of Color, often turn to, we are made all the richer for it. Bravo.

I really hope this inspires our children that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. This is a very significant part of American history, people can hate all day, but you can’t change what has happened. I thank God for the Obama’s. Rock on!

    Oh, what a beautiful cover. . .

Next week is going to be jam-packed with fesivities.🙂

    BTW, here’s a great site for Inauguration-related news: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/inauguration/

I’m looking forward to Obama’s speech, but I think one of the true highlights that is guaranteed to make me cry is the sight of members of the Tuskegee Airmen and the Little Rock Nine — these are brave men and women I grew up reading about, and the blessing that some of them are alive to witness this historic moment in person is awe-inspiring to me. It still all seems surreal to me.🙂

  • DC GIRL...yes i can!

I love the line up for performances…At least all the ones chosen can sing LIVE! Keep it real… Beyonce and Mary kill it LIVE. I mean they are going to do music fit for the occasion, not their current singles. GROW up…all the right folks love Beyonce, which includes OBAMA and his little girls, he already said he took them to her concert and they LOVED IT! It is the PETTY niggas that try to bring her (BEY) down. Oh, and yes she looked better in that dress than Dawn. That is NOT a dress for the red carpet, u see Bey wore it on a boat to eat crabs and shrimp…Dawn get it together boo.

  • Detroiter4Life

    @ Crazylegs

You know the funny thing is even the ones you thought were cool with Obama haven’t said a word about him since here either!! LOL!! But you know what ask if that has stopped me Posting all kinds of pictures of him and the family up like WHAT!? They needs to let it go cause like you said “It’s about to go down!” …….uhhhhh or was that Jay-Z …;p

  • Sydney

This is another cute story — There’s a 10-year-old boy from Florida, Damon Weaver, who just obtained his press credentials to achieve his goal of interviewing Obama. The Huffington Post, huffingtonpost.com, has been writing about him, and his story has made the national news. Now all he needs is a time to sit down with the next president.🙂

  • Politicker
