A man has today been charged with murdering his younger brother while at a wake for their other sibling.

Mark Hayes, 52, is accused of fatally stabbing 48-year-old Sean Hayes following the funeral of their brother Tom.

The brothers are thought to have become embroiled in a furious argument in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Neighbors heard screams from an end-of-terrace house in Eltham, south east London, where Mark lives with his 49-year-old wife Carla.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing in the early hours.

Sean Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest and abdomen.

Father-of-three Mark Hayes was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Another man, aged 23, was arrested on suspicion of assault following a separate incident at the house.

He was taken to a south London police station and has since been bailed.

A third man, aged 48, was arrested on Saturday afternoon on suspicion of violent disorder. He was taken to a south London police station and has since been bailed to return, pending further inquiries.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘Mark Hayes has been charged with the murder of Shaun Hayes, aged 48, on Saturday.

‘He will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.’

One neighbour told the Sun: ‘I heard this massive commotion outside. A woman was screaming her lungs out and within minutes the police arrived. The man on the ground was just lying there, still as a statue.’

Imagine how their mother feels being at her son’s wake and having her other son killed the same day, by another son of hers.
