nominees

Taraji P. Henson & Viola Davis arrived at the 2009 Oscar Nominees Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel last night. Wow. We’ve got a Black President, but we can still count the number of Oscar nominees on one hand. We still have a long way to go. For more pics of the swanky event, you know the drill.

Viola Davis is really pretty, esp when she smiles.
Taraji is African-American royalty and she’s a doll.
I wish the both the besteststst.

  • emmy

Yeah, but the movies have been mostly white this year so there isn’t really that much to nominate.

but I DO think Columbus Short and Jeffrey Wright were downright ROBBED.

meanwhile medicore movie Revolutionary Road was nominated. That movie was SO bad.

  • deafjam04

Always love to see Viola in just about anything. She is a superb actress! Tarji has to walk away with the best supporting Oscar. She has come a long way and deserves it!

  • Yo man

Aha Beyonce, eat your heart out. You DO NOT WALK ON WATER, I repeat You DO NOT WALK ON WATER, and the whole world is not impressed by you.

Yes, Taraji is doing it in Hollywood, can’t wait to see more of her work.

get over yourself with this “long way to go” crap. black actors have been making their mark and comin up just fine in recent years. look at forrest whittaker, denzel, halle, jhud, etc…

im sooooo sorry the entire tyler perry cast and crew couldnt get in on the oscar action.

    PLEASE.

think about the other communities that are misrepresented in the oscar running and shut your mouth.

  • niasia

Damn Taraji is fine! No homo🙂

  • keysha

Yay for Taraji! I love her…but what was she in?

  • http://smashbox-cosmetics.blogspot.com Latika

when we stop putting out crappy ass stereotypical movies, and have solid substantial roles, then we’ll have more nominees.
taraji was excellent in benjamin button and deserves her nomination
viola, on the other hand, had like a 5 minute scene and her acting did not warrant her an oscar nomination

  • Razzell Dazzell

I saw viola talking about her nomination and I have to say, while I believe she is a good actress, my goodness she is hard on the eyes. I don’t care how “dolled” up she is, I don’t think she is pretty, but that’s not what this is about. Congrats to both.

  • SOLILOQUOY

    @ LATIKA,

Viola stands a better chance to win OSCAR! She was flawless in DOUBT! Her range and her presence were amazing.
I notice a lot of you don’t understand how this stuff works, perhaps it is because of lack of exposure to the arts and even a simple background in theatre or ENGLISH writing for that matter.

Also you are right, we need to put out better material. Asian movies tend to get nominated not because they are Asian or the stereotypical kung fu movie, but rather well-thought out dramas that have good actors, good writing, great cinematography, a lot of history and culture.

When we adhere to the above formula, we will see more success.
