A South Side elementary school was locked down around the time children were to be let out Thursday afternoon after an 18-year-old woman was shot outside, police said.

The woman was shot about 2:30 p.m. outside Wacker Elementary School in the 9700 block of South Morgan Street in the Longwood Manor neighborhood.

Police said five young men, ages ranging from 16 to early 20s, were detained after the shooting. It’s not clear if any will be charged, and police described the 18-year-old shot as uncooperative.

Police said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing conflict between two gangs in the area, and that the woman’s boyfriend is a ranking member of one of those gangs.

The woman who was shot was said to be in stable condition and recovering. Shame that these bums would bring their senslessless foolishness outside of an elementary school.
