The father of an 8-year-old girl who was beaten and strangled in July after having been forced to drink her own urine and stand tethered to his bed has been charged along with his mother with the girl’s murder, prosecutors said today.
Andre Ford, 28, was ordered held without bail by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Laura Sullivan. He is charged with murder in the July 12 death of his biological daughter Gizzell Ford. His mother, Helen Ford, 51, who is the girl’s grandmother has previously been charged with her murder.
The girl lived with her father and grandmother in the 5200 block of West Adams Street. Prosecutors previously said the woman had inflicted so many injuries on the girl over a long enough period and neglected her so badly that before she died she had maggots living in a head injury that had spread to another part of her scalp.
Andre Ford appeared in court today in a wheelchair because he has Scleroderma, a skin disease that also can affect a person’s organs.
