Blue Ivy is a true blue hip-hop head and she’s not even 2-years-old!
In his “most revealing interview ever,” Jay Z covers the November issue of Vanity Fair and opens about being a first-time dad to 20-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and why she’s his “biggest fan.” Sharing how he first pursued now-wife Beyonce and addressing rumors that she wasn’t really pregnant with Blue, Jay Z gets personal with the magazine.
Though Beyonce, 32, has said Blue likes Jay Z’s music better than hers, the 43-year-old rapper says “that’s not true,” but admits his daughter did fall in love with his twelfth studio album, Magna Carta . . . Holy Grail.
“She does like her mother’s music — she watches [Beyonce’s concerts] on the computer every night. But my album came out and I don’t know if Blue ever heard any of my music prior to this album — she’s only 18 months old and I don’t play my music around the house,” Jay Z explains. “But this album was new, so we played it. And she loves all the songs. She plays a song and she goes, ‘More, Daddy, more . . . Daddy song.’ She’s my biggest fan. If no one bought the Magna Carta [album], the fact that she loves it so much, it gives me the greatest joy. And that’s not like a cliche. I’m really serious. Just to see her — ‘Daddy song, more, Daddy.’ She’s genuine, she’s honest, because she doesn’t know it makes me happy. She just wants to hear it.”
That’s gotta be a great feeling to hear your kid ask to hear your work over and over again! We know how Hov likes to keep his private life private, but that’s something we’re glad he shared.
Hit the flip for even more sharing, as he discusses how he wooed Beyoncé.
On Courting Bey
Though Jay Z doesn’t have to work hard to win over his daughter’s affection, he says he “of course” had to pursue Beyonce. Jay Z reveals that he and Beyonce “were just beginning to try to date each other” when they were both featured on the cover of Vanity Fair’s 2001 Music Issue. “Well, you know, you’ve got to try first,” he explains. “You got to dazzle . . . wine and dine.”
If Jay Z hadn’t been the Grammy-winning artist that he was, does he think Beyonce would have fallen for him? “If I’m as cool as I am, yes. But she’s a charming southern girl, you know, she’s not impressed . . .” he says. “But I would have definitely had to be this cool.”
The couple tied the knot in 2008, and Jay Z says his wife has changed from from the good girl that she was. “She’s gangsta now,” he said with a laugh.
We bet she’s gangsta now after years of dealing with his a$$!
More on the rumors on the flip.
On Pregnancy Rumors:
All kidding aside, Jay Z was quick to defend his wife against rumors that she wasn’t really pregnant with Blue back in January. “It’s just so stupid. You know, I felt dismissive about it, but you’ve got to feel for her. I mean, we’ve got a really charmed life, so how can we complain? But when you think about it, we’re still human beings,” he explains. And even in hip-hop, all the blogs — they had a field day with it. I’m like, We come from you guys, we represent you guys. Why are you perpetuating this? Why are you adding fuel to this ridiculous rumor?””
One rumor that turned out to be true, however, was the couple deciding to trademark their daughter’s name. Jay Z explains that they got the trademark so others couldn’t exploit the name for profit. “People wanted to make products based on our child’s name and you don’t want anybody trying to benefit off your baby’s name,” he says. “It wasn’t for us to do anything; as you see, we haven’t done anything.”
LOL at “We Represent You Guys”… Hey Jay-Z we gotta get our gwap some kinda way too! Break us off a little proper chunk and we’ll spare you the funky stuff.
