Life has it’s ups and downs, but  for some celebrities it can be too much. Here are 9 celebrities who battled with depression.

Serena Williams

In March 2011, Serena revealed she became depressed after cutting her right foot on glass which resulted in her having to skip several major competitions.

Ashley Judd

In her 2011 memoir, Ashley Judd confessed to trying to commit suicide in the sixth grade and spending 42 days in a rehab center for depression.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

In May 2013, Catherine received treatment for bipolar disorder and depression. She successfully completed treatment.

Jesse Jackson Jr.

In 2012, Jesse fell into a deep depression,  took a leave from Congress and collapsed at his home. His depression was probably compounded by the fact that he was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for stealing and misusing money.

Paris Jackson

Paris had a hard time coping with her dad’s death and in June 2013, she sliced her arm with a meat cleaver and took 20 pills in a suicide attempt. She is on the mend now and doing better.

Katy Perry

Katy recently admitted she had suicidal thoughts and suffered from depression after her divorce from Russell Brand.

    Michelle Williams

    The Destiny’s Child singer and Broadway actress started struggling with depression when she was 15  and found it hard to get out of bed.  Her battle has been lifelong, but she avoided medication and rose from her depression with therapy, exercise and positive thinking.

    Lee Thompson Young

    It was reported that prior to Lee’s suicide, he was battling depression and bipolar disorder. He was also taking medication for his condition.

    Chris Brown

    Chris Breezy was lonely and depressed after bad gal Rih Rih kicked him out her house in Jan. 2013. That West Indian box is hard to get over.
