Police say two people are dead and two more are injured in a shooting at Sparks Middle School in northern Nevada Monday morning.

Washoe County School District Police didn’t immediately offer details of the identities of the dead. Spokeswoman Angela Rambo of Renown Regional Medical Center says two boys are in critical condition.

Officials said that of the two injured victims, one is doing well and the other is entering surgery. Of the deceased, one is a school staff member and the other is a student who is the suspected shooter.

Speaking at a press conference Monday afternoon, mayor Geno Martini said that it is a “tragic day in the city of Sparks.”  “I want to reiterate that the city itself is very safe,” Martini said. “It’s an isolated incident, I don’t believe this is any kind of spree that’s going to go on.”

The shooting happened on the school’s campus, but outside the school building itself, according to police.

Sounds like the police in the area thankfully have this situation under control at present but, we will continue to keep you posted as more details are revealed.
